Other (neighbouring) Villages

The present village of East Ilsley is probably located close to the original Hildesley.  However, both the Ilsleys have ancient and shared pedigrees - both have churches that were probably built in the 12th Century.  The researches of the East Ilsley Local History Society have not yet extended to specifics in West Ilsley (there's enough to keep us occupied with East Ilsley).  However, the research on Inns and Alehouses has covered also the breweries of West Ilsley.

The West Ilsley website contains some historical photographs of that village (and of East Ilsley).

The villages of Nachedešorne and Ashden were associated with East Ilsey and both probably lay on land that is part of modern-day Compton.  Further information can be found in the Society's publication about the origins of the village.
