War memorials
Research into the people who are commemorated on the war memorial is a project that is now completed. There is a web-site specifically about these people and their lives - this is now operational - www.east-ilsley.com/warmemorial. An associated book, for those people who would like a 'hard' copy of the information, is now available - "Names Familiar To All - the stories of the East Ilsley War Memorial", by Kay Sanderson. The cost is £4 (please add 80p if it needs to be posted) - copies are available from Sigma Books by mail order at White Hollow, High Street, E.Ilsley, Newbury RG20 7LE or via the Sigma Books web-site. Royalties from sales of the book will go to the Royal British Legion and the E.Ilsley Local History Society.

The war memorial in St. Mary's church, East Ilsley, has recently been restored. It lists those people associated with the village who died in both the First and Second World Wars. They were not necessarily born in the village but had some link here. |
